The City of Roswell wants to make local renters aware of a financial-assistance program being made available by the State of New Mexico. The Emergency Rental Assistance Program offers help with rent, utility bills and other housing-related costs to qualifying individuals and households.
The assistance is available to renters who meet certain household income limits and can show a financial impact due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Detailed eligibility requirements, as well as more information about the program, are found online at RentHelpNM.org. The application process can also be found at that website.
The City of Roswell Finance Department can help anyone who needs assistance in applying for this program. To receive assistance, an appointment must be scheduled with either Jasmine (575-500-0409) or Casey (575-637-6246).
The state will pay either the landlord and/or the utility provider directly, based on the assistance request by the applicant. Landlords and utility providers can visit the website to find the documents they need to submit to ensure a streamlined process for receiving payment under this program.
The state will grant $170 million of federal aid to New Mexicans for rental and utility assistance. The program is taking applications through August. In addition to the website, information can be obtained from the program’s help desk at 1-833-485-1334.
