A project that will install sidewalks and new street paving on a section of West McGaffey Street is scheduled to begin Monday, April 18. The project between South Union and South Wyoming avenues is scheduled to take about three months.
The contractor will begin by installing sidewalks where none currently exists. The sidewalks will include ramps that meet Americans with Disabilities Act requirements. The sidewalk work will begin along the north side of West McGaffey, which will require closure of the shoulder, but traffic in both directions will still flow as usual. The work will progress westbound to South Wyoming and then head eastbound to install sidewalks on the south side of West McGaffey.
The sidewalk work is expected to be completed around June 10, when the contractor will move on to placing new asphalt paving and striping on the street. The paving and striping is expected to be done by mid-July.
