Three City of Roswell representatives are part of statewide tourism-industry task forces that have been formed to collect and analyze economic-impact information, share best practices and evaluate recovery tactics in response to COVID-19. The goal of this initiative from the New Mexico Tourism Department is to gather useful information that can be used to plan a recovery effort in a collaborative manner with tourism partners.
To help with this initiative, local tourism-related businesses, organizations, destinations and facilities are being asked to share data that will help the state detail how the pandemic has impacted these types of entities. Information is being sought from the following sectors: Destination Marketing Organizations; Hotels, Resorts and Lodging; Restaurants; Retail and Galleries; Events and Event Planners; Attractions and Cultural Institutions; Meetings and Conventions; Airports and Transportation; Tour Operators.
Those involved in these sectors in Roswell and Chaves County are urged to go online to submit a form that will explain the specific types of data being sought.
“The global outbreak of COVID-19 has impacted tourism across the globe, and we are feeling that impact right here in New Mexico,” according to the state Tourism Department. “In order to reduce the short-term and long-term impact on our industry and our ability to promote New Mexico in the future, we need to work together.”
Those representing the City of Roswell on the various tourism-industry sector task forces are Public Affairs Director Juanita Jennings (Events and Event Planners), Special Events and Outreach Manager Stephanie Mervine (Destination Marketing Organizations) and Air Center Deputy Director Mark Bleth (Airports and Transportation).
“Some businesses and destinations are pivoting and creatively adjusting in response to COVID-19 in ways that can provide constructive guidance to others,” the Tourism Department explains. “In order to identify the best course of action for recovery, we need real-time data to understand the impact on the workforce, visitation and revenue for tourism businesses.”
