Department Responsibilities

The Budget Department checks all purchases made by the various departments to verify that money for the expense is available in their budget.

We also maintain the records for fixed assets and city insurance, vendor statements, selected invoices and reports.

Budget Schedule

The Budget Department is responsible for the creation of four budgets each year.
  • The Mid-Year Budget is made in January or February to adjust for things that were not expected or unknown at the first of the year.
  • The Year-End Budget closes out the accounts and covers the changes during the second half of the year.
  • The Preliminary Budget is done in June to prepare for the upcoming fiscal year.
  • The Final Budget adjusts the preliminary when the fiscal year is closed and amounts are finalized.

Budget Approval

These budgets are passed by the City Council and sent to Santa Fe for approval.
